Just starting out on Family History or want to understand in more detail those core research documents such as Birth, Marriage or Death Certificates and Census pages? Did you know a UK birth certificate often contains between six and eleven facts which you need to record or that Catholic marriages are recorded by the Registrar completely separate to the Church marriage register, which even in the twentieth century was often recorded with “latin” names?
We will also look at the various providers of information, both paid for and free, looking at indexes and transcripts and the challenges of searching for information, using examples from the attendees research where possible. This is a lecture based course not a hands-on day therefore you will not be carrying out your own research. By the end of the day, however, you will have gained the knowledge and confidence to go away and start your own research at home.
