I was delighted to find my “The Red House” image had beaten some strong competition to win Photograph of the Week on the Photography Cafe.
This is what I wrote about the image for the announcement posting there:
Thank you all for the honour of Photograph of the Week, it was a lovely surprise.
At the end of august, we travelled up to the Norwegian Fjords on the Queen Victoria Cruise ship with my parents. From a photography point of view cruises have the disadvantage that you tend to be on board for early mornings and late evenings, but going north meant even at just after 9am the light was still pretty good. I wanted to show the reflection of the boat house and the top of the mountain with the clouds skimming it. I was working handheld as we were walking through Olden with my parents using my Canon 60D and Sigma 18-50mm DC EX lens.
It was one of those shots as Ansel Adams says “Sometimes I do get to places just when God’s ready to have somebody click the shutter.” I think Olden and it’s surrounds is a landscaper’s paradise and I hope to be able to go back some time and spend more than a couple of hours there.
