On the 9th of July Stephen and Jane travelled on the Pathfinders Tours Pennine Express to Carlisle and back, a very long, but enjoyable trip. Starting at 5:20am from Taunton we travelled along the the Welsh Marches before skirting the Lake District and finally to Carlisle. After a problem with one of the carriages we departed around 25 minutes late for a ride along the Carlisle to Settle Line through the Pennine Hills.
The real problem was it turned out the carriage with the problem was the Kitchen car and this meant they had no way to produce the 4 course meal for the 90 people who booked it, including us. Anyway the “Crisis Management” was good and we had a lamb roll to keep us going followed (once we got to Crewe) with Fish and Chips, I would have liked to see the Chip shop man’s face when someone ordered 90 portions of Fish and Chips, this was followed by Cheese and Biscuits (which was on the original menu) and then some little chocolate ganache tartlets which the chef had managed to make in the buffet car of the train.
